Outside the rain barn of Katherine and Markus Ottmers' ranch Casa de Mañana is a sign that reads: "Bloom Where You Are Planted". In a dry, desert region of Texas, she and her husband have been able to capture enough water through condensation to meet the needs of an entire ranch of fifty goats and 6-8 people taking showers, a requirement of about 50-80 gallons of water a day. “I like to think of Casa de Mañana as one big art project. Our canvas is degraded land,” says Katherine. I love her ethic of working with what she has, and her ability to see degraded land as a canvas. It reminds me of the Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado's project of regenerating his father's cattle farm in Southeast Brazil, reversing decades of destruction and creating a thriving forest. --- Source: https://craftsmanship.net/the-new-water-alchemists/
