An American agricultural scientist and inventer who pioneered regenerative agricultural techniques ahead of his time. According to Leah Penniman, he listened to the Earth in order to get his ideas (kinda like a black Rudolph Steiner). He was born a slave, but went on to teach and research at Tuskegee University.
In 1894, he became the first African American to earn a Bachelor of Science degree.
He promoted crop rotation, using nitrogen-fixing plants like peanuts, soybeans and sweet potatoes to enrich the soil. He taught poor farmers that they could feed hogs acorns instead of commercial feed.
