Consent is a key principle of Sociocracy. It means that any proposal or decision made within a circle has to be consented to. Consent means the absence of objections. An objection means that something is beyond one's zone of tolerance. One does not object to something just because it is not one's preferred option. It has to be outside of the zone of tolerance. If politics were to incorporate the principle of consent, societies would be far more equitable and its members would be more engaged in civic life.
