In the 18th and early 19th centuries, British Quakers founded well-known confectionaries – Cadbury of Birmingham, Rowntree's of York, and Fry's of Bristol.
Quakers liked to choose the confectionary business for ethical reasons – compared to alcohol, cocoa and sugar were less morally reprehensible. Quakers were known for their business integrity, fair pricing, and paying off debts. This positioned their businesses for success.
Today, Quakers still have a fondness for sweets. Chocolate and biscuits are offered at the majority of Quaker meeting houses.
Personally, as a chocoholic and adherent of progressive values, I find the combination of cocoa and social justice to be rather intoxicating. In my next life, [[Why I love Quakers|I'd like to be a Quaker]].
