Philosophy is about asking the big questions. Whatever your current frame of thinking, there is always a bigger question to ask around it. Some might say that philosophy is thinking about thinking.
I love it because the questions it asks are never completely answerable. This guarantees that philosophical conversations never end. They just evolve. Some might find this pointless. I think it's charming, and sometimes the whole point of life.
Another reason to engage in philosophy is that it is an antidote to the increasing quantification of life. Even when we're trying to talk about happiness, we can't help trying to quantify it. That's why we have the Genuine Progress Indicator, the UN Development Index, the UN Inclusive Wealth Report, the Happy Planet Index, the Gross National Happiness index. Philosophy is for everything that can't be captured with numbers.
Also, everything begins with philosophy, as shown by Wikipedia. If you follow the following instructions, you will always arrive at Philosophy:
> Following the chain consists of:
> - Clicking on the first non-parenthesized, non-italicized link Ignoring external links, links to the current page, or red links
> Stopping when reaching “Philosophy,” a page with no links is reached, or a page that does not exist, or a loop occurs
This website shows the links between any article on Wikipedia and philosophy:

Just as the artist gives us permission to be free, so does the philosopher give us permission to think.
