## Highlights
- Discipline allows us to create habits that can activate our brain’s positive thought pathways. Without Discipline we can fall into unhealthy behaviors and negative habits of acting and thinking. One of my favorite quotes from the Buddha highlights this principle, “As irrigators lead water where they want, as archers make their arrows straight, as carpenters carve wood, so the wise shape their minds.” ([Location 31022](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B088NMRFNS&location=31022))

- The time you spend meditating is also a way of relating with yourself. You can begin to make friends with your personality and all the different aspects of your mind. You can begin tolerating and accepting the positive and negative parts of yourself. ([Location 31458](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B088NMRFNS&location=31458))

- Planning is a way to feel safe because it imagines a known outcome. Judging is a way to feel that we are secure because we are right. Desiring keeps us from feeling anxious, and worrying allows us to prepare for future problems. ([Location 35390](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B088NMRFNS&location=35390))
