# Episode 2 - How Crisis Creates Change
We need satiety of basic needs in order to innovate.
We need to operate from a positon of safety. (Soul nerve. Vagus nerve. Polyvagal theory.)
What is the inter-generational gift that we are custodians of? How can we create a system that incentivizes custodians?
Capitalism is a machine stripped of love. Nowadays you can't bring up love and capitalism in the same sentence.
Crisis creates the engine, wisdom is the driver, and invoking a new idea in the midst of that. Can this fuel a revolution in consciousness?
Consciousness is a kind of battle.
How to address the shadow in all of us, in boardrooms, in conversations about capital?
How to move through trauma. (Soul nerve!)
Replace "overwhelm" with "suffering". Overwhelm is giving us an out. It's doing a disservice to the human soul.
Etymology of suffering - su (below), ferry (carry) - something comes up from belong that we must bear
We have to stop outsourcing our suffering.
# Episode 3 - A Revolution of Values
We should be careful of collective feelings. These are set on fire by leaders.
We should ask 2 questions:
- What needs to be broken down, so that we can be in relationship to reality?
- How do we advise people, or lead people, out of the towers of isolation, so that they can be in relationship to reality?
- How can people get in touch with the field for which they are responsible? How can they begin tending it?
At Small Giants, they are constantly trying to figure out the balance between potency and scale.
What are the images that can be introduced into society to shift people away from the old system and towards the new system?
Jung's model of the psyche is simple - image and energy. (Barry Lord's Art )
Gandhi's genius is sensing the collective psyche and harnessing image, energy and language.
Suppose what we all value is community. What the collective is missing are images of community that draw life to it. (Burning Man gives the feeling of community, but it doesn't necessarily give the image of community.) How community has been imaged in the past doesn't give us traction. Ie the image of the tribe. Finding the new image will spark the revolution.
(Image of new community. Cyanobacteria. We are all adding a different oxygen to the air.)
(My interview with Monique Schiess. Burns build monuments to community. Each work of art is an image of community)
Safety comes up again and again.
We are each a field. We have value streams that feed the fields around us. But we must first feed our own field, whilst recognizing that our consciousness comes from something higher than ourselves.
# Episode 5 - Re-emerging with new prosperity
Apocalypse just means "revelation".
The archetype of the apocalypse seems to come up every time a crisis occurs, where we fear the total dissolution of everything we value. In the book of revelations, New Jerusalem is supposed to descend on high. We have expectations that a new utopia will emerge after the apocalypse, and we are disappointed when this doesn't happen. We would be more grounded if we simply see the moment as one of a re-assement of values, when we become aware of our habits and beliefs.
Trust and faith that volition is always available to us, no matter what situation we are in.
Behind every value is an archetype. And archetype can be clothed in all kinds of ideas. For example, prosperity is something everyone wants. But there is a fight over how prosperity is clothed in the minds of the nation. Prosperity is an invisible concept. We have to image it, in a way that can be operationalized.
Gandhi wanted to teach his country self-reliance. And he clothed this in simple acts of weaving and making their own sea salt. Going back to basics.
