## 1.1.5 - Greeting Customs
Elements of greetings
- Wiping off dust from the road
- Orientation to the space - contributes to sense of safety
- Sensing when everyone's ready to start
1. we are neurobiologically wired to need this for our sense of safety
2. a good greeting custom should support people to feel present, feel safe, and feel grateful
3. greeting customs create a space where people feel a deep sense of belonging, which inspires them to give themselves fully to the group
4. connection has its own rules which operate in field; greeting customs help create that container
## 1.2.6 - Errands
- We learn to pay better attention when we do things on our own
- Southeast shield - vitality - abundance of electricity in the body
- We need a sense of electricity in the body, because it keeps us primed to attend to challenges in the moment
- Children are hardwired to want to run errands for the grandparents, uncles and aunties
- Errands charge the body with electricity, which motivates (moves) people
- Errands create flows of going out, and coming back in
- San bushmen had fearsome predators around (lions, hyenas, 9 species of poisonous snakes), and they sent their children out on errands
- collecting firewood to keep a fire going is a great way to send children on errands; it creates concentric rings of exploration as they run out of the more easily accessible wood
## 1.3.6 - Peer Bonding
In modern times, the play date is the antithesis of this cultural pattern. Peer bonding is timeless and unsupervised by adults.
The sign of peer bonding happening is **unconditional listening** (*the South attribute*)
The result of adult peer bonding is an electrical union where synchronicity happens. We had this when we were kids, but lost it when we entered the adult, professional world.
Children are able to play with each other even though their stories of the world don't match up.
We should have 3 occasions of unconditional listening per day, and a community of 20-25 unconditional listeners.
This is the heartbeat of mentoring. A mentor is able to pull on a story wtihout judgment unti it grows, increasing a person's confidence. A healthy culture has people who have the capacity to be peer mentors - not teachers, advisors, etc.
